At the commission’s Aug. 15 meeting, senior analyst Dylan Rice and Commissioner Laura Thomas reported back on overdose-prevention outreach conducted at Oasis in partnership with the Department of Public Health.
Rice said the outreach included an information table, overdose-prevention supplies and a training produced with a presenter named Kachina. He told the commission there were about 390 attendees and staff distributed “over 50 Narcan nasal sprays and 100 fentanyl test strips.” Rice showed photographs from the outreach and a flyer with a QR code linking to a training video.
Commissioners praised the effort and noted August is International Overdose Awareness Month, which Rice and Thomas said is being observed across the city with events and City Hall lighting on Aug. 31. Rice invited commissioners to a follow-up outreach event at El Rio the coming Sunday.
The commission did not adopt new policy at the meeting but recorded the outreach as part of ongoing engagement with nightlife venues and public-health partners.
