The San Francisco Entertainment Commission’s executive staff announced on May 21 that The Brixton has been placed under a 15‑day administrative suspension and is scheduled to appear for a hearing on June 4 to review its enforcement history and potential permit reconditioning.
Executive Director Wyland, who joined the meeting by Zoom, said the suspension follows repeated violations of the venue’s limited live performance (LLP) permit conditions and that the order will take effect at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, and remain in place until 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 9. "I have grounds as the director to issue a limited suspension," Wyland said in the informational report to commissioners.
Senior inspection staff gave a timeline of complaints and enforcement actions. An inspector responded to two May complaints documenting live entertainment after 11 p.m.; although one sound measurement showed compliance with exterior sound limits, staff observed entertainment continuing past the permitted hour and issued two $500 citations in mid‑May. The inspector said these are the venue’s fourth $500 citation for operating after 11 p.m. since March, and that the department has issued a notice to appear for the June 4 hearing to consider possible reconditioning of the LLP permit.
The director’s administrative authority allows a short suspension for repeated violations while preserving a separate administrative hearing process. Wyland and inspection staff described the suspension as an interim enforcement step; the June 4 hearing is scheduled for the commission to review a fuller enforcement record and owner submittals.
Next steps: The Brixton is scheduled to appear before the commission on June 4; staff said the owner has been asked to submit a new LLP permit application to update records. The commission did not take a formal vote on the suspension at the May 21 meeting, which staff characterized as an informational report and enforcement action under the director’s authority.
