LAFCO approves memo to Board; Executive Officer Brian Gobel announces planned departure

At the April 16 meeting of the San Francisco Local Agency Formation Commission, Executive Officer Brian Gobel announced he will step down when his contract expires in September and asked the commission to forward a memo summarizing LAFCO's 2020 work to the Board of Supervisors.

"I'll be stepping down as executive officer when my contract expires in September," Gobel said, adding he would remain through that date to ensure a smooth transition.

Gobel presented a draft memorandum that highlights LAFCO's 2020 activities, including work on Clean Power SF and other special studies. Commissioners praised Gobel's leadership during his three-year tenure and thanked him for preparing the memo. Commissioner Gordon Marr called the draft "an important" summary of the commission's work and thanked Gobel for his service.

A motion to adopt the memorandum and send it to the Board of Supervisors (Item 6) was moved and seconded; the clerk recorded the roll-call votes and the motion passed with three ayes (Cruz Pollock, Marr, Chan). The commission recorded the action as forwarding the memo to the Board.

Gobel also reported a staffing update at the commission's renewable-energy consultant (Vanner), noting a staff departure and that the contract with Vanner runs through July 17 with an option to extend.

Next steps: the adopted memorandum will be transmitted to the Board of Supervisors; Gobel said he will continue working with commissioners and staff through September to support a transition.
