The Local Agency Formation Commission approved its 2024 regular meeting schedule (bimonthly on odd‑numbered months, with a proposed budget calendar of March for proposed and May for final approval) and continued deliberation on a motion to discontinue remote public comment.
Executive Officer Jeremy Pollack told commissioners the recommendation to discontinue remote public comment mirrors a Board of Supervisors motion (Oct. 17) that ended general remote comment except as legally required for disability accommodations. Pollack said the recommendation was presented for feedback and that staff could continue the item for additional consultation with the Clerk’s office and legal counsel.
Commissioner Dean Preston said he voted against the Board of Supervisors’ change and prefers LAFCO maintain remote public comment if it does not impose undue burdens on the Clerk’s office or SFGovTV. "If it did not create any hardships by having different systems for the different bodies... I would prefer to maintain remote public comment," Preston said.
Commissioners discussed ADA accommodations: a Board staff representative said the Board requires 48‑hours’ notice to arrange accommodations and that callers self‑identify limitations without being asked for a specific diagnosis.
After public comment from residents urging retention of remote access, the commission approved the 2024 meeting schedule (vote 3–0) and voted to continue the motion on remote public comment to the call of the chair for further consultation.
