The Housing Authority approved Amendment No. 1 to contract 0029-20 with Eugene Bergam Management (EBMC) to extend property-management services for Sunnydale, Velasco and Potrero projects through Jan. 31, 2025. General counsel Linda Mason explained the extension corrects an administrative timing discrepancy caused by delayed service start dates and does not add new funds to the contract.
Teresa Peckler of EBMC described operational steps taken in January: a 100% audit of all vacant units, hotline signage on vacant doors in multiple languages, coordination with police to enforce trespass orders, eviction actions for trespassers and improved billing and repayment-tracking processes. EBMC said the audit helped identify compromised units and that collaboration with community-based organizations reduced the number of abatements at Sunnydale and Potrero.
Commissioners asked for continued transparency and stronger contract monitoring. The board approved the amendment by roll-call vote (unanimous). Commissioners indicated they expect follow-up reporting on EBMC performance metrics and progress on vacancy remediation and lease execution.
