Residents raise maintenance, communication and nuisance complaints at SFHA public comment period

Multiple residents used the two-minute public-comment period at the Feb. 8 Housing Authority meeting to report localized problems at subsidized properties and to request agency follow-up.

At least three tenants from or near JFK Towers and 939 Eddy reported chronic maintenance and safety concerns. David Woods said a side door at 939 Eddy had been bolted for months until the fire department intervened and that management was treating tenants unfairly; he asked for an apology and for staff to follow up with TNDC. "There's a door, a side door, next to the garage that's been bolted for several months... we felt that that was, you know, like, a hazard," Woods said.

Anne Macarelli said San Mateo County had told her her Section 8 voucher would remain valid while disabled, but she later learned SFHA had "absorbed" the voucher; she said SFHA staff had been unresponsive for nearly a year and asked for written confirmation. The chair and staff committed to follow up directly.

Other commenters raised building-specific concerns: Francis Harwood described repeated elevator failures at 1750 McAllister and alleged the contracted elevator company charged excessive fees; Henry Moreno and Scott Bogdan reported a pattern of dog-related incidents at JFK Towers and presented a petition asking for leash enforcement and owner accountability.

Commissioners and staff repeatedly offered to follow up, take contacts, and coordinate with property management to resolve the specific complaints. The board did not take immediate formal action during the public-comment period beyond promising follow-up.
