Preservation commission adds racial and social equity language to rules

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Historic Preservation Commission on Wednesday adopted an amendment to its rules and regulations to incorporate a racial and social equity component.

The chair read the proposed language into the record: "the San Francisco Historic Preservation Commission acknowledges the diverse population of the city and county of San Francisco and reaffirms its commitment to racial and social equity," and recommended that the mayor nominate and the Board of Supervisors affirm commission members that represent that diversity. The amendment directs the Planning Department to ensure diverse voices are given reasonable accommodations at public commission meetings and notes the amendment implements a phase of the commission's equity plan.

No public comments were received on the amendments, and the commission voted to adopt the changes unanimously.
