Commission backs National Register nomination for Timothy L. Pflueger house

The Historic Preservation Commission on July 20 voted 6–0 to adopt a resolution supporting a National Register nomination for the Timothy L. Pflueger house at 1015 Guerrero Street.

Planning staff summarized the nomination prepared by Robert Cherney, saying the two‑story Italianate house (built 1887) is locally significant under National Register criterion B for its association with architect Timothy L. Pflueger, who lived at the property from childhood through his death in 1946. Staff described the house’s architectural features and noted it retains the seven aspects of integrity used in National Register determinations.

Historian Robert Cherney, presenting remotely, outlined Pflueger’s career, noting his innovative use of materials and styles and several notable city landmarks, and said the house “is the best property associated with Pflueger’s productive life.” Commissioners praised the nomination and the breadth of Pflueger’s work, calling the nomination a straightforward endorsement. The commission voted to forward comments and support to the State Historical Resources Commission ahead of the August hearing.

The commission’s resolution is advisory to the state nomination process; the state historical resources commission will consider the nomination at its upcoming hearing.
