Speakers press commission on Castro Theatre outreach and meeting transparency

At the start of the Oct. 19 Historic Preservation Commission meeting, public commenters raised concerns about outreach and meeting transparency.

Castro Theatre concerns: Michael Vitrelis urged the commission to sponsor a listening session on the Castro Theatre after management changes, saying the community has not been convened and alleging Supervisor Rafael Mandelmann had private meetings with the new operator, which in his view warranted community engagement. "The man owes the Castro community a town hall," Vitrelis said during general public comment.

Staff responded by describing the Sunshine Ordinance process for including up to 150 words of a public comment in minutes; the commission adopted the Oct. 5 minutes in a 7–0 vote.
