Commission hears informational presentation on proposed alterations at 1500 Sansom (Roundhouse No. 2)

The Historic Preservation Commission received an informational briefing March 1 on proposed changes at the Landmark Roundhouse Complex at 1500 Sansom Street (Roundhouse No. 2), a site owned by the Port of San Francisco.

Jonathan Vimmer, planning staff, explained the proposed scope for the 1984 Roundhouse No. 2 building: in‑kind replacement of windows, replacement of the roof, addition of a roof and guardrails atop an existing mechanical penthouse, and replacement of the existing solarium. Planning staff described the changes as limited in nature, confined to a non‑contributing structure, and compatible with the property’s overall integrity. Vimmer said the department had received no public correspondence on the project; port staff attended to answer questions.

Commissioners and staff treated the item as informational; no action was required or taken by the Commission at the meeting.
