Health Service Board approves teleconference resolution, meeting rules clarified for public comment

The San Francisco Health Service System board voted unanimously Jan. 12 to adopt a resolution allowing its meetings and committee meetings to be held by teleconference under California Government Code section 54953(e). President Scott introduced the item and a motion to adopt was moved and seconded; the roll-call vote was unanimous.

Staff then reviewed the public-comment process and dial-in instructions for remote participants, including the phone number (415-655-0001) and access code (24814535729). The moderator monitored the queue and guided callers on how to join and when to speak.

During the general public-comment period, Helga Demara, who identified herself as a San Francisco City and County retiree, asked the health service system to offer an opt-in email notification option for retirees and to allow members to contact the system by email in addition to phone. She said a missed mailed notice nearly resulted in her husband’s insurance being discontinued and described a recent enrollment problem with UnitedHealthcare. Board staff signaled they will track public comments and follow up as appropriate.

The board’s adoption of the teleconference findings allows remote participation for the board and its committees for the coming month and clarifies how public comment will be managed for virtual callers.
