SFHSS staff and consultant Aon presented results from a December 6 mental-health forum designed to map member experiences and identify actionable recommendations.
Executive Director Abby Yant said the forum was one of the strategic plan’s key initiatives and that it was intended to align vendors, clinical experts and city departments to improve access and navigation of mental-health services for members. Alicia Englund (Aon) said about 50 participants took part, including member representatives, city departments and clinical partners.
Aon distilled the forum into five draft recommendation themes: (1) equitable pathways to care, including onboarding and assessment tools; (2) a member-centric ecosystem that supports belonging and engagement; (3) stakeholder and leader training (for example, mental‑health first-aid and employee resource groups); (4) enhancement of vendor clinical and subclinical supports to broaden prevention and treatment; and (5) effective measurement and auditing to track outcomes and utilization. Aon emphasized upstream interventions — psychological safety, onboarding and peer support — alongside clinical care to reduce reliance on higher-cost acute services.
Board members praised the forum and asked staff to continue partnering with the Department of Human Resources and plan partners to refine the recommendations and report back. Commissioners also discussed measuring differential access to virtual care and how demographic data can help target interventions.
