The San Francisco Health Commission unanimously adopted a resolution honoring Dr. John Brown, medical director of the San Francisco Emergency Medical Services Agency, on the occasion of his retirement after nearly 30 years of public service.
Health Director Susan Philip and multiple commissioners praised Brown for his leadership in EMS, disaster response and clinical education. The resolution, read into the record by Secretary Morawitz and further described by DPH staff, cited Brown's decades-long contributions to emergency and trauma care, regional disaster medical assistance, and mentorship of UCSF medical trainees. Commissioners described personal experiences with Brown's steady leadership during public-health emergencies and noted his role in improving local EMS systems and hospital coordination.
Commissioner Chao moved to adopt the resolution; it was seconded and approved by voice vote. Dr. Brown spoke briefly to thank colleagues and highlight the importance of prehospital providers and training the next generation. The commission took a brief photo and applauded before proceeding to other business.
