The Health Commission received information on May 7 about a proposed relocation of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation from 1035 Market Street to 940 Howard Street. Joona Reyes of the Business Office of Contract Compliance said the move is subject to Chapter 79 and the department 27s Good Neighbor Policy because it changes prior building use and involves funding above $50,000.
Ben Cabana, chief of staff at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, described services to be offered at the new site. He said the Stonewall project 27s behavioral-health programs (outpatient substance-use treatment and counseling) would operate there along with community-engagement and cultural-affinity programming. "We are the sole tenant" at 940 Howard, Cabana said, adding that the move should simplify client access relative to the previous multi-tenant building.
Cabana said the new site will officially open to staff and clients on May 20. He described partnerships to improve access, including a subsidized Uber Health arrangement that provides free rides to appointments for clients.
Commissioners asked about hours, appointment-based services and transportation; Cabana said services will be offered during working hours, that they had not received negative feedback about accessibility, and that partnerships and sole tenancy were expected to ease client access.
The commission treated the item as informational; no vote was required.
