Valencia Street plan postponed for more outreach after residents report late notice and parking concerns

SFMTA staff told the board the Valencia Street project, originally noticed for the March 7 meeting, was being held to a future date so staff could expand community outreach. The agency did not provide a firm rescheduled date.

A resident at the meeting said she received notice only at the last minute and asked whether the agency would mail follow‑up notices and ensure residential stakeholders such as Valencia Gardens receive targeted outreach. "Are you guys taking all the parking spaces away on Valencia Street from 15th to 20th?" the caller asked; Jamie Parks in Livable Streets for SFMTA replied that the current proposal would not remove all parking on that segment, that multiple parking changes are included and are complex, and that additional postcards will be mailed once a firm hearing date is set.

Parks also said the postcards were not the only outreach; staff have done merchant and neighborhood outreach and offered further in‑person engagement with residents and merchant groups before the rescheduled hearing. Board members asked staff to ensure specific outreach to large nearby housing projects and to consider on‑site engagement with residents who are not part of merchant groups. The board agreed to move the item to a future meeting and to collect additional community input before taking action.

No formal vote on the Valencia plan occurred at the meeting. Staff said they will continue community outreach and will return with a rescheduled hearing date and additional engagement details.
