Tempe Union board expresses grief after Desert Vista student death, points families to counseling resources

Near the close of the meeting, the Tempe Union High School District governing board issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the recent death of a Desert Vista student.

"As a governing board, we are devastated to learn of the death of a Desert Vista student that occurred over the weekend," the board statement said. The board said grief and counseling resources are available to the community and encouraged anyone in need to seek help. The statement directed community members to tempeunion.org/socialemotionalwellness for local and statewide resources.

The board extended gratitude to counseling teams at Desert Vista and across the district, the district's Social Emotional Wellness team, MTSS teams, Care 7 team members, school staff and community partners who have provided support. No formal board action was taken beyond the public statement and expression of support.
