CalHFA executive director Tina Johnson Hall to depart; board honors decade of service

Tina Johnson Hall, executive director of the California Housing Finance Agency, told the board at its November meeting that she will leave CalHFA to take a position in Los Angeles. Chair Jenna Cervantes and multiple board members praised Johnson Hall for her leadership, mentorship and role in shaping the agency’s strategy over the past decade.

Board members said Johnson Hall’s work on programs including Dream For All and MyHome helped advance CalHFA’s mission. Director Prince called Johnson Hall “an innovator,” and Director Russell noted her role in strengthening the agency’s staff and external partnerships. The board presented Johnson Hall with a resolution and a commemorative clock recognizing her service from 2015 to 2025.

Johnson Hall said she leaves the agency in good hands. “I leave knowing the team is elevated and ready to do remarkable things,” she told the board. She also thanked staff and board members and noted that staff and the chair are engaged with the appointments office to identify candidates for the executive director role.

Chair Cervantes said the administration and Secretary Moss have been consulted about the replacement process and that staff will provide updates. The board paused for personal remarks from members, and several directors described Johnson Hall as a mentor who helped them navigate complex policy and program decisions.

The board did not take formal action on a personnel appointment at the meeting; members said they expect an appointments process and to receive staff recommendations in the coming months. A celebratory lunch and personal acknowledgements followed the public remarks.
