Legislative committee adopts L-MIG subcommittee report, notes program growth

Representative Vance Smith presented the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (L-MIG) subcommittee report, recounting two meetings (Atlanta and Macon), stakeholder testimony from county and city officials and participation by GMA and ACCG. Smith told the committee that since 2015 the L-MIG funding allocation has increased roughly 65% and noted the program remains an important source for small, district-level transportation projects.

Smith said the subcommittee did not propose specific statutory changes at this time but recommended periodic reviews (perhaps biennial) to assess the program's effectiveness. Committee members asked about the formula used to allocate funds; Smith confirmed the formula is developed through the director of planning, an appointed position that reports to the committee when appropriate.

A motion to accept the subcommittee's work was made and the committee voted to adopt the report and include it in the committee record. The chair invited the planning director to meet with the committee at a future meeting for additional discussion.
