The Tempe Union High School District governing board opened its meeting with ceremonies and community recognition.
JROTC cadets presented the colors and the board recited the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a land acknowledgment naming the Akmal O'odham, Pima and Pee Posh Maricopa indigenous peoples.
Acting Superintendent Dr. Wilson recognized Mountain Pointe's Unified Badminton team for advancing to the AIA state championship and named coaches and student-athletes in attendance. Representatives from Special Olympics Arizona, Jeff and Peyton, thanked the district for its partnership in supporting unified sports.
Dr. Wilson also recognized Tempe Police SRO Detective Natalie Barela and Nurse Beth Marcotte for their lifesaving response to a student's cardiac arrest at McClintock High School. Principal Arroyo read a student's account describing the incident and ongoing support; both staff members briefly addressed the board and emphasized relationship-building with students.
During communications, Vice President Steele announced donations from the Thunderbirds Foundation—$1,000 to McClintock High and $1,000 to Mountain Pointe High—and a $150 donation to Desert Vista High from Bridging Change.
Board members praised food and nutrition staff innovations, construction and maintenance planning, and recent community events such as marching-band invitational and county ASBA meetings.
