Utah County commission holds brief procedural meeting, continues one item and sets names for chair and vice chair

The Utah County Commission met for a brief, largely procedural session that opened with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance and concluded after the board agreed to carry one agenda item to Jan. 17, update consent-agenda names for chair and vice chair and schedule closed-session items.

Commission participants announced that Item 7 (Provost City) would be continued to Jan. 17 to allow additional time for paperwork review. A member said Provost City "said the seventeenth should be fine," and the commission agreed to the continuance.

The commission also noted no holds on items 1–10 and no requests for discussion on items 11–20. For items 21–25, members said they would add names to the consent agenda, specifically naming Brandon Gordon as commission chair for the year and Tom Sakovich as vice chair; the additions were placed on the consent docket for formal inclusion. The presiding participant confirmed the other consent-package materials were in order.

Members addressed closed-session planning, saying an HR item (HR 1) was needed and that other proposed closed-session items were not required. The group agreed to hold Item 26 and cancel Items 27, 28 and 29.

The chair announced there would be an opportunity for public comment; none was offered. The meeting ended when an unidentified participant moved to adjourn, another seconded, the chair called for the question and members voted "Aye." The meeting was then adjourned.

Quotation excerpted from the meeting includes the prayer offered by an unidentified speaker: "We are grateful for the freedoms that we have, grateful for each other, and for the hard work that's been put in to this agenda." The pledge was led by an unidentified participant who recited, "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America..."

Next steps: Item 7 will return on the agenda on Jan. 17; the additions of Brandon Gordon and Tom Sakovich will appear on the consent agenda for formal approval as part of the consent docket at the next regular meeting.
