IUSD authorizes architectural contract for University High performing arts center under Measure E Series 4

The Irvine Unified School District Board authorized the assistant superintendent of business services to enter into a contract with Renu Clark Architects to design a new Performing Arts Center at University High School, a Measure E Series 4 project.

Trustees discussed the design process and campus impacts, noting the need to preserve or integrate services for the district’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) program so that the new facility remains accessible to those students. Board members also acknowledged that building the facility will require reconfiguring nearby athletic facilities such as softball fields and tennis courts.

Member comments praised the administration and project team for identifying a plan (referred to in the packet as Option 4) that attempts to balance equity across campuses while responding to cost and site constraints. The board moved and approved the contract authorization on the facilities consent calendar following public discussion and a second.

The motion authorizes district business services to execute the contract; specific contract terms and schedule will be handled by staff under standard procurement procedures and Measure E funding authority.
