Tempe Union trustees elect Montero as president, James as vice president; approve consent items and part of 2024–25 budget

At the start of the meeting trustees nominated and elected their 2024 board officers: Armando Montero was elected president and Sarah James elected vice president; both were approved by unanimous 5-0 voice votes.

Later in the meeting the board approved consent agenda items G1–G12 by a 5-0 vote. Acting Superintendent Dr. Wilson then presented Part 1 of the recommended 2024–25 budget. The administration proposed using one-time budget capacity to make up projected declines in average daily membership, recommended returning to nine behavior intervention specialists (previously funded by ESSER) and a 2% across-the-board salary increase. The board voted to approve Item I1 (budget recommendation Part 1) by a 5-0 vote.

Ending: Routine governance actions were taken by unanimous voice votes; the administration said further budget work will continue through a strategic review committee that will report recommendations to the board in fall 2024.
