Crater Lake Academy Executive Director Stephanie Koch updated the Eagle Point School District 9 board on May 22, reporting program growth, accreditation results and current enrollment figures.
Koch said CLA finished a Cognia accreditation process with a score of 303, which she described as about 50 points above the accreditor’s average; a progress report will be required in three years and full reaccreditation will occur in six years. She reported an estimated 96% graduation rate before summer school and a 100% five‑year completer projection. CLA also expanded extra‑curricular clubs and student opportunities this year, sent its first Envirothon team to state competition and increased Pathways Academy participation by 4 percentage points.
On enrollment, Koch said the May lottery filled 30 sibling spots (18 resident students) and that, after offers are accepted or declined, CLA’s preliminary resident count was 223, exempt resident count 87 and non‑resident 85, leaving a current total enrollment projection of 395 and a waitlist of 95 families. She told the board CLA requires an on‑campus tour before adding a family to the waitlist.
Board members raised a contract amendment under discussion that would define 'resident students' and noted concern that CLA had been prioritizing non‑resident students over resident students. CLA and board staff agreed to discuss the proposed MOU in a forthcoming work session and to share the MOU by email prior to that meeting.
Koch thanked the district for hosting CLA as a charter school and said leaders plan ongoing partnership on pathways and program expansion.
