The Yellowstone County Board of County Commissioners approved zone change 7-20 on Oct. 3, a map amendment affecting 2424 South 40 8th Street West that rezones a portion of the property to an N4 large-lot suburban neighborhood designation while leaving the remaining 30 acres in agriculture.
Karen Husman of the planning department described the surrounding zoning and recommended approval based on the 11 review criteria and the county growth policy. Scott Worthington of Insight Engineering, representing the owners, said the proposal is consistent with adjacent land uses and urged the commission to approve the change. Commissioner Jones moved to approve the proposal based on staff’s findings; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Earlier in the meeting the clerk opened two proposals for the Montana fair carnival operator — Thomas Carnival and Riley Cook — and commissioners moved to accept and refer both proposals to staff for evaluation. The board also opened two bids for the 2024 RSID chip seal project: Knife River ($1,757,750) and Hardrives Construction ($1,555,112.37); commissioners moved to refer those bids to staff for a report-back.
The actions on the bids were procedural referrals to staff; formal award decisions were not made at the Oct. 3 meeting.
