Jefferson County commissioners on Feb. 9 approved a slate of administrative and financial items including authorization for a $1,000 credit card for a new Extension Office hire, a group of property tax exemptions, and an intergovernmental agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy.
Christine Lund told the board the Extension Office hired a new employee and requested a county credit card with the normal $1,000 limit. The board approved the issuance for Diane Paulson by motion and roll call.
In a series of motions the board approved property tax exemptions for multiple local organizations. The board discussed a request from Grand Teton, which sought a 100% exemption; commissioners noted Idaho Code constraints and that part of the property is leased commercially, and agreed to continue the same 84% exemption previously granted. Other exemptions approved included West Jefferson Lions Club, Kelly Canyon Ski Patrol, Roberts Community Church, Mud Lake Historical Society & Museum Inc., Rigby Community Presbyterian Church, Bethel Independent Baptist Church, the EICA Partnership (low-income housing parcels), Ryrie Chapel, parcels held by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Boise, and West Jefferson Senior Citizens. Most exemptions were approved by roll-call votes without extended debate.
The board also approved an annual intergovernmental agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy that functions similarly to PILT (payments in lieu of taxes) for county land within the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory footprint; commissioners said the agreement uses the same formula as PILT.
Other administrative actions approved by motion or roll call included: certificates of residency for the spring 2024 semester, PTO donations (40 hours from employee 934 to employee 826 and 80 hours from employee 804 to employee 724) to be tracked separately and contingent on completed FMLA paperwork where appropriate, and claims totaling $360,090.31 for the 01/22/2024–02/09/2024 period.
The meeting recessed briefly and later proceeded to scheduled land-use hearings and planning items.
