Consultant presents municipal building redevelopment plan; council refers plan to planning board

A consultant from CME presented a redevelopment concept for the municipal building site during the Hamilton Council meeting on Feb. 20, describing plans to redevelop an underused, approximately nine-acre parcel for a new municipal building and board of education facilities and to incorporate stormwater-management and green-infrastructure elements.

Consultant Karen said the team "put together a redevelopment plan" and has met with county engineers and utility companies to coordinate infrastructure needs. She told council the site has already had demolition work and the team is preparing visuals for the planning-board review. When asked about timing, a staff reference to statute noted a 45-day planning-board review period for the referral process.

Council moved to refer the municipal building redevelopment plan to the planning board via Resolution 1-24-103 so the board can issue recommendations and confirm consistency with the master plan. The motion carried on roll call.

Next steps: the redevelopment team expects to present visuals and meet with the planning board (staff said the planning-board review is scheduled for Thursday) and will continue coordination with county engineers and utilities before returning to council with planning-board recommendations.
