The Hamilton Council on Feb. 20 conducted multiple ordinance readings and recorded votes on a set of parking, naming and property-acquisition measures.
On second reading the council adopted Ordinance 1-24-044 to establish a handicap parking space at 235 Sprague. Council also carried second-reading votes on other parking-related ordinances and on Ordinance 3-24-006 (cannabis and medical cannabis definitions); one council member announced an abstention on the cannabis item during the roll call. The council unanimously approved Ordinance 4-24-007 to rename Olivia Avenue to Brian D. Sutton's Union Way in honor of a firefighter who died in the line of duty.
Council approved Ordinance 5-24-008 authorizing the purchase of real property at 1770 East State Street (Block 1637, Lot 5) with a purchase price of $150,000 and estimated closing costs of $10,000, for a total funding amount of $160,000.
First readings introduced on the agenda included Ordinance 1-24-009 (repeal of a handicap space at 225 Park Lane) and Ordinance 2-24-010 (authorization to acquire properties at 1766 and 1768 East State Street for affordable housing and public health/safety), both set for future consideration.
