The county board opened its Dec. 12 meeting by administering the oath to two newly hired sheriff’s deputies and hearing a briefing on upcoming county events.
Deputy Dylan Carlson and Deputy Kyle McLaren were sworn in before the board. The sheriff said both deputies are already POST-certified and will begin field training before assuming regular patrol duties. During the oath both deputies repeated, “I will discharge the duties of my office with fidelity,” and closed with, “So help me God.” Family photos and a brief presentation of badges followed.
In departmental updates that followed, Tim Stoney said the front parking lot improvements are nearing completion and noted preparations for an upcoming December 23 Chase Hawks rodeo event. Department staff Cody reported the rodeo ticket count is “just shy of 3,000” and gave preliminary ticket counts for upcoming concerts, saying Bridal Adams is “just shy of 1,600” tickets and Parker McCollum is “right around 2,700” at present. Cody also said sponsorship commitments for the Montana Fair are about $60,000 to date and that contracts with vendors (listed on the consent agenda) were pending signature.
The board recessed that portion of the meeting after thanking staff for the updates and then moved on to planning business. No formal public comments were received on the consent items and the meeting adjourned with holiday greetings from the chair.
The departmental updates were informational; no formal county action was recorded that altered contracts or budget totals in the transcript beyond noting items would appear on the consent agenda.
