Board members approved three contract/purchase items and discussed vendor selection and competitive process.
ESI: Administration presented a request to approve a purchase exceeding $100,000 for ESI, the district’s contracted substitute and retiree staffing vendor. Doctor Jay said ESI has broad outreach and the district largely controls pay rates; the contract term was noted to expire June 30. Board members asked about competition and asked staff to evaluate other vendors next year; a motion to approve the purchase carried by voice vote.
Sierra Academy: The board approved a purchase over $100,000 for Sierra Academy to provide outside special‑education placements when the district cannot meet an individual student’s needs. Doctor Jay explained placements are used after exhausting in‑district supports; Lee Gleason attended to answer questions. The board approved the purchase by voice vote.
Fruth Group (IT): After an RFP process and outreach to vendors, administrators recommended awarding an IT services contract to Fruth Group. Discussion focused on prior relationships, staffing tradeoffs (outsourcing vs. hiring several full‑time IT staff) and expected savings. Administration said Fruth was the only bidder in the RFP round who returned a winning bid and that district staff have generally been satisfied with response times and remote support. The board moved to award the contract with purchases to exceed $100,000 and approved it by voice vote.
All three actions were advanced as routine business with staff committing to provide more competitive analyses and timelines for future contract renewals.
