Commission approves purchase of seven trailers for sheriff's office after split vote

The Utah County Commission approved a contract to purchase seven trailers for the sheriff's office from Wasatch Trailer Sales in Springville, but the vote exposed a split over using personnel-account funds for equipment.

Commissioner Sakovich said she opposed using money from an 1,100 personnel account to buy equipment and reiterated a prior objection. Despite that, Commissioner (motioning member) moved approval and the motion passed on a 2-1 roll-call voice vote with Sakovich recorded opposed.

The approval authorizes the purchase and directs county procurement to finalize the vendor contract. Commissioners did not change the funding source at the meeting, and staff noted the vote outcome for accounting follow-up during the budget process.

Quote: "I'm not in favor of using 1,100 account, which is personnel account money, to purchase items like this," Commissioner Sakovich said before the vote.

The purchase will proceed as approved; commissioners flagged the funding source as a point for budget discussion.
