Commission authorizes write-offs of long-delinquent receivables after staff report on collection efforts

The Utah County Commission approved writing off a list of long-delinquent accounts receivable after hearing from staff about collection efforts and new payment capabilities.

Finance staff described receivables dating back to 2018, including charges for security services and a CARES Act-related balance. Staff said some older accounts had no responses from debtors and that new online payment options and closer coordination with the sheriff's office should improve future collections.

Commissioners instructed the civil division to pursue recovery on one particular item (identified in the backup as item 5) and approved writing off the remainder as uncollectible. The motion to designate the listed past-due receivables (except item 5) as uncollectible and authorize the write-offs carried on a recorded voice vote with many recorded ayes.

The action relieves the county of lingering receivable liabilities on its books but directs staff to continue collection and legal efforts for accounts the commission excluded from write-off consideration.
