Commission adopts updates to moderate-income housing element of general plan after state review

The Utah County Commission adopted an ordinance updating the moderate-income housing element of the county general plan after staff addressed deficiencies noted by a state review.

Bryce Armstrong of Community Development said the county had previously submitted the plan and the state returned it for revision because the draft did not match exact statutory wording in places and needed clearer, measurable implementation goals. Staff updated the strategies and distinctions between existing ongoing efforts and strategies subject to the statute; the state reviewed the changes and indicated approval.

Commissioners asked whether date-specific implementation items would age awkwardly in a long-range general plan; Armstrong said the dates were intended as targets and could be amended if needed. Commissioners thanked staff for the additional specificity and unanimously approved the ordinance.
