The Utah County Commission voted to approve and authorize the chair to sign an agreement with America's Freedom Festival after the festival's executive director described this year's program and agreed to remove a proposed road closure from the approved site plan.
Jim Evans, executive director of America's Freedom Festival, told commissioners the festival expects hundreds of volunteers and more than 500,000 participants across events and said organizers would focus on vendors and entertainment rather than a carnival this year. Evans said some talent and contracts remain under final negotiation. "We are having the festival this year," he said.
A county staff member noted a diagram associated with the site's traffic plan appeared to extend a road closure farther than prior years; Evans said the carnival (which typically required extensive road closure) would not occur and organizers would work with public works to keep the road open. Commissioners moved to approve the agreement with the edit removing the road closure area; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote, 3–0.
Evans presented commemorative pins the festival produced; commissioners thanked organizers and asked staff to finalize the amended agreement for the chair's signature.
