Utah County commissioners adopt resolution honoring Sept. 11 first responders

The Utah County Commission unanimously adopted a resolution on Sept. 1 recognizing the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and honoring first responders.

Commissioner Sakovich read the proclamation aloud, recounting the national shock of the attacks and noting casualty figures included in the resolution. The text called on elected officials, county employees and residents to observe Sept. 11 as a day of service and remembrance and invited fire and law-enforcement agencies to coordinate a solemn display — including staged vehicles and siren/light observances at set mountain-time moments to mark the four attack sites.

Sakovich framed the measure as a way to ensure younger generations remember and to recognize local first responders’ continued service. The resolution passed on a voice vote, 3–0, and commissioners thanked the first responders present in the gallery.
