County renews asthma home‑visiting program funding through amendment with state public health

The Utah County Health Department briefed commissioners on an amendment to its asthma home‑visiting program, a long‑running prevention effort funded through the Utah Department of Health and CDC grant cycles.

Health staff described the program’s components: home assessments to identify asthma triggers (mold, pet dander and other common causes), education for caregivers, coordination with physicians and referrals through partners such as SelectHealth and HUD, and provision of supplies when needed. Staff said the program focuses outreach on higher‑need, lower socioeconomic areas and that families opt in to receive services.

Commissioners asked how families are identified and referred; staff said some referrals come from partners and hospitals and that families must opt in. The amendment covers a multi‑year award; staff clarified the figure shown in materials is the total across the award cycle and works out to roughly $65,000 per year in recent cycles.

Commissioners approved the amendment by voice vote, 3–0.
