Commission tables HR overtime clarification aligning county policy with federal FLSA

County staff presented proposed wording in the human resources manual clarifying that hours worked for off-duty or supplemental employment are treated consistent with the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and therefore are not included in regular overtime calculations.

Ralph (staff) told the commission the changes were intended to align local policy with federal rules and to state how the county will pay for these assignments. Commissioners discussed how published fee schedules and sergeant salary changes may affect any future rate adjustments, and several members asked for time to confer with legal counsel.

Because commissioners wanted additional discussion in closed session on related legal considerations, they voted to table the HR/overtime policy item (agenda 32) and to address a related agenda item (10) after those conversations.
