County approves on-site AssetWorks training for fleet staff after remote rollout

The Utah County Commission on a voice vote approved a change order to bring AssetWorks technicians to county shops for one week of on-site fleet training.

Richard Nelson, the county’s public works director, said the county implemented AssetWorks during the COVID era and initially rolled the system out remotely. "Our guys have been running it now for about six months," Nelson said, and the vendor visit would let technicians "ask questions, [and] learn how to use different features" that will help the county maximize the program.

Commissioners also raised the separate issue of outsourcing routine maintenance such as lube, oil and filter services. Nelson said a recent RFP drew zero responses; county staff are now hand-delivering solicitation packets to local shops with sheriff’s-office assistance in hopes of attracting bids. A commissioner urged staff to move quickly to avoid labor shortages driving future costs.

The motion to approve item 8 passed on an aye voice vote recorded as 2–0. The action will fund vendor training as described by Nelson and continue county efforts to explore contracting options for basic maintenance.
