Commission tables election‑data review, will continue RFP work while awaiting court guidance

Utah County commissioners voted unanimously to continue without date an agenda item that would have started a scaled statistical review and a request for proposals (RFP) for access to election records and related analysis.

The agenda item was presented as a narrowly scoped, cost‑conscious approach to determine whether a broader, more expensive RFP would be warranted. The proponent said the intent is to do a limited statistical review first and then expand scope only if anomalies appear. Public comment at the meeting included multiple speakers who urged rapid action and emphasized public confidence in elections. John Johanna Smyr said, "Anything I think we can do to help move this forward effectively as fast as possible," and others asked who can lawfully access cast‑vote records (CVRs). An expert commenter urged the commission to ensure statistical analyses use sound assumptions and control‑limit methods.
