Commission elects chair and vice chair for 2023 in customary rotation

The Utah County Commission unanimously adopted a resolution electing a chair and vice chair for the 2023 calendar year.

The Moderator explained the county’s tradition of rotating leadership on a roughly 12‑month basis: "it has a wide range of various, administrative, social, and other roles. And we rotate that journey right in the first part of the, January," the Moderator said. The Moderator then nominated Amelia Powers Gardner to serve as chair until replaced and Brandon b Gordon to serve as vice chair until replaced by the board for 2023.

Commission members expressed support for the rotation practice. One speaker said, “I think rotating every 12 months has been working, and I'm more than happy to serve as chair,” and the board moved to adopt the resolution as presented. A motion to adopt item 36 was made and seconded; the commission approved the resolution by a 3‑0 voice vote.

No public comment was recorded on the appointment; the commission then recessed to a scheduled closed session.
