The Yellowstone County Board of County Commissioners voted May 2 to approve Resolution 23-59, removing a load restriction on Shorey Road, a county route that runs between Highway 3 and the Mould Highway.
County staff member Tim told commissioners the road has been reconstructed from a gravel surface to a hard surface with added foundation and recycled asphalt on top. “We’re gonna lift the weight restriction on Shorey Road,” he said, noting the reconstruction and current condition as the rationale for the change.
Tim said lifting the restriction would give truck traffic an alternative route during ongoing interstate and local construction, helping trucks travel from Broadview down into Laurel and access the interstate. The board opened a public hearing on the resolution and, after hearing no public comment, moved to approve the change.
The presiding commissioner recorded the motion, it received a second and the board approved the resolution during the meeting. The action was taken at the May 2 meeting; no additional implementation schedule for the ordinance amendment was specified during the discussion.
The measure amends the county’s list of load-restricted roads under the cited county ordinance; the transcript references ordinance number 07107 in connection with the resolution. The board did not receive public opposition during the hearing.
The next procedural step for this amendment was not stated in the record. Interested residents were directed to the county’s public hearing schedule for follow-up dates and any additional posting requirements.
