Yellowstone County swears in two new sheriff's deputies

The Yellowstone County sheriff introduced and administered the oath of office April 4 to two new sheriff’s deputies, Riley Barta and Nicholas McGrathia, welcomed by commissioners and family members.

The sheriff described each deputy’s background: Riley Barta, from Billings, attended college in Bozeman and recently served in the National Guard, including a 12‑month deployment and experience as a military police officer and patrol supervisor at a NATO base. Nicholas McGrathia was introduced as a veteran who served in the Navy, graduated from the University of Arizona, and plans to live in Billings with his wife, Sylvia. Family members were invited to join the deputies on stage for photographs.

Each deputy repeated the oath to uphold and defend the constitutions of the United States and the State of Montana and to discharge the duties of their office with fidelity. Commissioners welcomed the new officers and thanked them for their service.
