Commission approves sale of 3.68 acres in Newton Industrial Park to Heartland Audio Visual

The Newton City Commission voted to approve a purchase-and-sale agreement with Heartland Audio Visual for 3.68 acres in the Newton Industrial Park.

Zach, who presented the item, said Heartland is an audio-visual company with five full-time employees that currently operates remotely in Kansas City and Wichita and that it plans commercial and warehouse operations at the Newton site. He told commissioners the sales price being used in staff materials was $15,000 per acre, which he estimated would be roughly $55,200 for the parcel.

Commissioners moved and seconded approval; the motion carried on a voice vote. Staff said Heartland has performed audio-visual work locally (for example, the new library) and has discussed potential work for city fire stations.

Next steps: staff will finalize the purchase-and-sale paperwork and proceed with closing according to the agreed terms.
