Students from Pine Ridge presented short literary essays showing development in writing mechanics and use of literary techniques, including transitions, thesis restatement and engaging conclusions. Principal Mr. Peltz and teachers highlighted the workshop model used in classrooms where mini-lessons and collaboration are core elements of instruction.
In a separate recognition, the board announced that Sydney Kuipers, a student at Forest Hills Northern High School, won first place in the 2023 State of Michigan art contest. Kuipers described the contest theme (“what makes Michigan strong”) and the board discussed temporarily displaying the artwork in district spaces.
Superintendent (Speaker 12) and board members praised the student presenters and the art recognition, noting it exemplifies the district’s instructional goals and community arts engagement.
Next steps: The superintendent offered to coordinate a short-term display of Kuipers’ artwork in district spaces and encouraged community visits to Pine Ridge to see classroom instructional work.
