The Yellowstone County Board of County Commissioners accepted the retirement letter of Sherry Long, the county’s Treasurer, Assessor and Superintendent of Schools, during its April 11 meeting and referred the process to fill the resulting vacancy to the county attorney’s office.
An unidentified commissioner moved to accept Long’s retirement letter and the board approved the motion by voice vote. The board then made a separate motion to refer the vacancy to county attorney staff for a recommendation back to the Board of Commissioners; the county attorney was asked to report back on April 18, 2023.
Commissioners offered public appreciation for Long’s long service; no candidates or timeline for appointment were specified during the meeting. The board took no immediate appointment action at the April 11 session.
