Oakland County approved acceptance of a Michigan Department of Natural Resources trust-fund grant and related County agreement to acquire Turtle Woods Nature Preserve in Troy.
Parks staff described the 71.17-acre acquisition as a flagship natural preserve that will remain largely natural with modest trail upgrades and a small parking area sized to allow a school bus turnaround. Staff said the 6 Rivers Land Conservancy currently holds title; the acquisition uses DNR trust-fund dollars (approximately $2.175 million) and county oversight to create public access while preserving natural features. Commissioners supported the purchase and asked about adjacent property purchases to create parking and access; staff said those items are included in the trust-fund grant accounting and will be addressed once funds are received.
