Crockett council approves minutes, casts appraisal district votes, tables two items and approves invoices

The council handled several routine and procedural matters during the meeting. After opening remarks, the council approved minutes from the regular session on Oct. 16, 2023, and a special session on Oct. 23, 2023 following a motion by Speaker 4 and a second by Speaker 7; Speaker 2 called the vote and said, "Motion carries."

On Item 3 the council considered casting its votes for the Houston County Appraisal District board of directors. Speaker 1 told the council it had 426 votes to allocate among five candidates. The council moved to split its votes between Cathy Calvert and Mr. Red Kitchen, allocating 213 votes to each; Speaker 6 moved the allocation, Speaker 7 seconded, and Speaker 2 stated the motion carried. The transcript records the allocation as 213 votes each and does not include a roll-call vote.

Two items were tabled for further review. An agenda matter under Item 4 was tabled until the next council meeting so additional explanation could be provided. Item 6, concerning removing paid administrative leave status of the Crockett Economic and Industrial Development Corporation administrative assistant, was also tabled pending further investigation; Speaker 6 moved to table and Speaker 4 seconded.

Finally, on Item 7 the council approved payment of invoices from the Crockett Economic and Industrial Development Corporation after a motion by Speaker 7 and a second by Speaker 4; Speaker 2 called the vote and said "Motion carries."
