Randolph County commissioners reorganize; appointment vote splits 3–2 on community seat

The Randolph County Board of Commissioners opened its December meeting by reorganizing leadership and approving a slate of board appointments. Commissioners nominated and confirmed Daryl Frey as chairman and Kenny Kidd as vice chairman at the start of the meeting.

The board approved a consent slate of routine appointments A through T by voice vote. During separate consideration of individual nominees, the board approved Dr. John Slatowski for the public health board. A later vote to appoint Albert Lassiter to a community-member seat drew discussion about district representation and passed on a 3–2 voice tally.

Commissioners discussed whether certain seats should remain aligned with previous district placements but noted there is no stated district residency requirement for that appointment. The meeting record shows motions, seconds and voice votes for these personnel actions; the clerk announced a 3–2 result for the Albert Lassiter appointment.

The board then proceeded to its regular agenda, moving from reorganization into economic development and departmental reports. No further procedural action was announced at the end of the appointments sequence.
