Council accepts $49,000 insurance‑funded settlement in Deer Run litigation

The Livingston Parish Council voted unanimously on Nov. 20 to accept a settlement resolving two lawsuits tied to the Deer Run litigation and to authorize payment of $49,000 to the plaintiffs.

A parish representative summarized the cases and said the plaintiffs had agreed to accept $49,000, which will be paid from insurance proceeds the parish obtained and not from tax revenues. “The $49,000 that will be paid to the plaintiffs in that case came from insurance proceeds that Steve and I were successful in negotiating,” the representative said as he reviewed the settlement terms.

Councilwoman Sandifer moved to accept the settlement and distribute the insurance funds; the motion received a second and passed unanimously. The representative said signing and court filing would conclude the litigation once the plaintiffs execute the settlement acceptance.

The minutes indicate the settlement is intended to resolve injunctions and related claims and that the parish’s leadership and legal staff recommended acceptance of the negotiated terms.
