Janet and Shay presented the Lake Region Solid Waste Authority annual review and recommended the county approve the Authority’s five-year management plan for submission to the state. Shay characterized the update as routine compliance work (mostly contact and small data updates) and said counties submit resolutions in January to finalize changes.
A motion was made to adopt Resolution 25-44 to approve the Lake Region Solid Waste Authority management plan. The motion was seconded on the floor and commissioners voted in favor during roll call; the resolution passed.
During the review, Shay described a proposal from the county’s Franklin County representative ('Peg') to distribute modest reserves back into counties for small projects. Shay said the Authority is offering a $5,000 "wheel check" to counties to support needs such as repairs for a recycling truck; the board discussed arranging a photo opportunity when the funds are delivered.
Separately, staff noted Prairie Paws’ director is seeking a county letter of support for a property-tax exemption for a pickup used as a mobile spay unit. The clerk offered to prepare the letter and facilitate logistics with county departments; no commissioners objected.
What’s next: Resolution 25-44 will be included in the materials the Authority submits to the state in January; staff will draft the Prairie Paws support letter and coordinate the $5,000 county check photo opportunity if logistics permit.
