The German Village Architectural Review Commission handled routine business and a mix of contested and uncontested Certificate of Appropriateness requests at its Dec. 3 meeting.
The commission ratified staff approvals and approved the minutes from Nov. 5. Commissioners then recommended approval for a requested variance for Mohawk Street (COA 2501299657) that would amend a 2001 council variance to expand permitted office/retail uses and retain previously‑approved parking reductions.
Two separate Mohawk Street cases (porch/fence and shutters/window boxes) were discussed: the Reinhardt Avenue porch/roof and the Mohawk shutters/window boxes applications were both continued to allow applicants to provide additional details and documentation of historic evidence.
Purdy Alley (COA 2501070880): The commission approved several site and exterior changes as amended. The approved elements included a wrought‑iron fence in the rear, replacement of gravel driveway and a new brick patio, window boxes and the replacement of six nonoriginal windows with black Marvin double‑hung windows; applicants agreed to remove gutter replacement from consideration and the commission added a gooseneck fixture over the rear door to the approval.
640 Mohawk (COA 2501269): Commissioners provided conceptual feedback on a small rear 1.5‑story addition, asked for a wall section, and requested clearer photos and a listing of matching slate roofing products; no variances were anticipated and the item will return with those materials.
Votes at a glance: staff approvals ratified; minutes approved (Nov. 5); Mohawk variance recommended (COA 2501299657); Reinhardt (COA 2501241267) continued; Mohawk shutters (COA 2500980846) continued; East Livingston (COA 2501271247) continued; Purdy Alley (COA 2501070880) approved as amended; meeting adjourned.
The commission scheduled follow‑up submissions for continuation items; applicants were instructed to work with staff and provide the requested materials before return to the commission.
